Fraternal Greetings!
I was lucky enough to have a communication with the representative of Gran Español (Gran Oriente Español) in Spain, RW Ramon Soler - Asistente Gran Maestro DGM. It was a pity that I failed to meet him during his visit here last year. Kuya Harry Gonzales was a key for that breakthrough.
Before I made a communication with RW Ramon, I asked MW Jimmy Gonzales for advise to be sure. As usual, MW Jimmy was prompt and kind to assist and said that we indeed have a Masonic relationship with them.
RW Ramon is really looking for their long lost lodges here. Spain's Masonic History is literally painted in blood. Almost all of their records were confiscated and burned! MMs (Master Masons) wew arrested and some were killed. In effect, what they have of Philippine lodges are just in memory.
The reason I was looking for them was due to the the 100th year Anniversary of Silanganan 19 August this year (2008), of which I was the WM last year. I felt as if I found a long lost mother! We were one of the original members of Gran España (Gran Oriente Español) here.
I hope that we can rekindle our roots in Philippine Masonry and have peace and harmony with other lodges. May God bless us all.

At dahil mahigpit na ibinawal sa atin -- "You are cautioned not to visit any cl....
Matapat,
Dali-dali silang nagtatag ng Manila Lodge No. 342, Cavite Lodge No. 350, at Corregidor Lodge No. 386; at pinursigi ang pagpundar ng Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands (na anak ng Grand Lodge of California).
Kuya Willy;
Maraming salamat.
Freemasonry triggered my interest in history especially about my mother lodge and Philippine masonry.
As I go deeper, I discover more and more interesting facts which made me to seek further and further.
And it is my pleasure to share it to the brethren.
Regards,
Kuya Jojo;
That was nice, when I was in that temple behind our house, sobrang
goosebumps ako coz I can picture how our lodges operate during the time when we are under the jurisdiction of Spain.
Jose Rizal was formed by brother Trinidad Pardo de Tavera in 1901, he is a friend of Jose Rizal who was raised in a lodge in France.
Kaya our lodge first started under France's jurisdiction.
Our lodge died after a few years because our grand lodge made a resolution to remove the Bible inside the lodge. Other grand jurisdictions reacted making
them withdraw the recognition and declared us clandestine.
Then some brethren from Grand Oriente de Espana headed by brother Felipe Tempomco and Crispulo Layos revived the lodge under their jusrisdiction.
Btw, brothers from Dalisay Lodge, (I have already informed WB Khris about this), a lolo of a friend who is now 90 plus years old is a member of Soliraridad Lodge under the Grand Oriente Espanol. That lodge merged with Dalisay.
According to that brother, his father is a very active mason
before. fyi
Regards to all,
Ken
Yesterday, when I went to the Out-Patient Lab in VA Long Beach, I saw a Pinoy sitting in the waiting area reading a newspaper. When I passed by him, tumango siya sa akin, tumango rin ako na may kasamang ngiti. I proceeded to the lab front desk and gave the receptionist my lab request.
Pagkatapos kong maibigay sa receptionist ang lab request ko, nilapitan ko ang Pinoy and I said, "Kumusta na ho kayo?" and which he replied "Mabuti naman. Upo ka." on which naupo ako sa silya sa tabi niya para makipagkuwentuhan at maghintay to be called by lab technician.
After about three minutes ng kunting kuwentuhan, the lab tech called me to draw blood at pumunta naman agad ako. After the lab tech drew the specimen, I went back and sat on the chair sa tabi ng Pinoy whom he intoduced himself as Sam Dagdag, a United States Navy retiree.
Alam naman ninyo, tayo when we meet a person, we check any signs or symbols in that person if he is one of us, Mason. Noong kumamay ako sa kanya, I can not see if his ring is a masonic ring. Kaya noong bumalik ako sa silya sa tabi niya, pilit kong sinilip kung masonic ring nga ang suot niya, and it is, there it is, the square and compass in his ring.
Tinanong ko siya, "Kuyang, traveller ka Kuyang?". Ngumiti siya at sumagot "Oo, traveller ako." showing his masonic ring to me. And then he asked, "Ikaw, Mason ka rin ba?'" and which I replied, "Oo, Kuyang, Mason din ako." at which, he extended his right hand at inabot ko rin ang kamay ko and he gave me a masonic grip which I returned. Tapos sabay ang tanong ko, "Saan Kuyang ang lodge mo?" and which he replied "Dito sa Long Beach. Yung Sovereign Grand Lodge of the Philippines. " Ooops.
"Oo sagot niya." Clandestine mason, naisip ko. Pero kung si Brothers Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Andres Bonifacio ay "Gran Oriente" and we are proud of them to be brother Masons....hmmm, saka na lang pag-isipan.. ...may Masonic Code na dapat sundin.
So tuloy ang kuwentuhan namin. At marami kaming napagkuwentuhan, even the issue and politics of the label "clandestine' mason."
Lumipat nga pala kami sa VA canteen at nagkape at nagkuwentuhan pa. Nang maghiwalay kami, he gave me his phone number and I gave him mine.I gave him a friendly handshake without the masonic grip. And he said "Sige, Brod, tawagan na lang tayo." Ang sagot ko, "Sige Kuyang, sa muli. Happy New Year!"

Bro. Benzar,
Manigong Bagong Taon!
When I was Secretary for South West 283 in the 80’s, we had five members from Pyramid Lodge 45(?) in Long Beach under Gran Logia Soberana, who renounced their affiliations with that Lodge, petitioned SW283 for the
degrees and started all over again. One of them is my colleague Pork Chop, Bro. John R R Oropesa, who once owned Family Loompia in National City.
It is unfortunate that those Lodges are still not recognized, and we are unable to invite them to sit in our Lodge. I wrote a story about this and was published in the Philalethes Magazine in Oct 2001, titled “No Help For The Widow’s Son.” Also in my website: www.geocities. com/bandidoalvar ez - click on “No Help.”
This happened over 18 years ago, at a time when Prince Hall recognition was still in the works and not yet approved by our GLCA. Also it is interesting to note that one of our column OB in Japan and GLP, to which I also belong, dictates that I will not communicate with a clandestinely made Ms . . . etc.
